Why Jasmine Tea is Different from Other Tea
Whether you drink tea all the time or are just becoming acquainted with it, you should try Jasmine tea. Of all Chinese tea, this is one of the most popular, a type of tea that was first discovered in the Sung Dynasty some 700 years ago. Workers found that by hand plucking the leaves just prior to blooming, an amazing flavor was produced.
Once the leaves are plucked, they must be kept in a cool place until nighttime. At that point, the full flavor and fragrance are released. Next, petals of the Jasmine plant are added to the dry tealeaves. As the leaves dry, they begin to absorb the fragrance of the Jasmine petals. Typically, Jasmine tea is scented this way up to three times and for higher grades, scented even more. Today, this process is often done automatically with machinery whereas in the old days, it was all done by hand.

Unique Quality of Wu Long Tea
Again, the formal name of this variety is Wu Long Tea although you would likely find it sold as oolong. For this tea, the leaves are only oxidized partially, which is done by using controlled but varying levels of heat. Just as with loose green tea and loose black that offers a nice flavor and health benefits, oolong also has the same characteristics.
China remains the top producer of Wu Long Tea but with growing consumer demand, it is now grown in other regions of the world.

Misconceptions such as this are another reminder that the western world with all its advances is still behind in knowledge when it comes to tea.
