Fighting Bacteria

When it comes to fighting off bacterial viruses, Chinese green tea is an excellent option. However, new studies also show that white tea and white tea extract have an antiviral effect on people, specific to pathogenic viruses. In fact, this type of healthy tea extract is now being added to some toothpaste brands, serving as an oral antimicrobial for better health.

Green tea, loose black tea, oolong tea, and Chinese white tea all come from the Camellia sinensis plant. For white tea, the leaves are harvested while still very young, a time when the buds are covered with a white “hair like” substance, thus the name. This Chinese herbal tea is grown and harvested primarily in China, specifically the Fujian Province, where this form of tea has actually been grown for hundreds of years.

Growing Environment of White Tea

This plant grows throughout China where they receive a significant amount of sun and rain. Because of the perfect environment in which the Camellia sinensis plant is grown, white tea ends up with outstanding properties. One of the best varieties known is called Silver Needle, which is made from the buds only. Every bud is handpicked from the plant but only during March 15 and April 10, a time when the buds have become ideal for the most incredible flavored tea.

Other types of white tea are made with the buds and leaves, which are first withered for a few hours and then dried in the open air. The outside temperature and moisture content in the air also work to produce amazing flavor and healing properties of this specialty tea. Tea growers understand the balance that must take place for indoor and solar withering so the tea comes out to perfection.

The benefits of Chinese white tea is that it can be enjoyed any time day or night, hot or cold, and in the summer or winter. More and more people have discovered the beautiful balance of this exotic tea, which promotes peace and relaxation. Just sitting down with a cup of tea creates a tranquil atmosphere or it can be enjoyed while sitting around with friends. White tea also helps improve concentration and improve overall mood.

It is believed that Chinese herbal tea was discovered by Emperor Shen Nung of China in 2737 BC. While camping near the forest, he was walking around while his servant began to boil water over the fire. Wind whipped up, causing a leaf from the tea plan, otherwise known as the Camilla sinensis plant to fall into the water. Since Nung was also an herbalist, he decided to leave it to brew.

From the Beginning

Ever since that day some 4,000 years ago, tea has been revered for its healing properties, as well as being a great beverage, hot or cold. It was during the 3rd century that word started spreading about all the benefits from herbal tea and even documents were written. However, it would not be until 618 AD during China’s Tang Dynasty that this beverage became known as Chinese herbal tea, the country’s official drink. At that time, tea was called ch’a.

From China, the popularity of exotic tea spread throughout the world, reaching Russia where it was popular in tea rooms, Japan, the beverage used in official tea ceremonies, and even to Britain where it was enjoyed and sold in quaint tea shops. For several hundred years, people were introduced to the rejuvenating and soothing flavor and effects associated with tea in general.

Refreshing and Delicious

One of the biggest benefits of drinking different types of tea, such as white tea or the best green tea is the refreshing flavor. When nothing is added, tea also offers no calories, great for a cold beverage without unwanted calories. To give you an idea of what these special teas offer, if you were to add a slight amount of milk, four cups would provide 17% of the daily recommended dose for calcium, 22% of vitamin B2, and 5% of zinc, folic acid, and vitamins B1 and B6.

You will also find that many types of herbal tea are rich in potassium, great to maintain fluid needed in the body, as well as magnesium, which is required for proper development. As you can see, Chinese herbal tea is truly an amazing beverage, one that everyone can enjoy thanks to the wide variety of choices.

Today, white tea is growing in popularity around the world. Historians tell us that Chinese white tea was first enjoyed from 618 to 907 AD during the Tang Dynasty. Now, countries around the globe are discovering the same light and delicate flavor.

Then from 960 to 1279 AD in the Song Dynasty, Hui Zhong, the Emperor tasted white tea and found it was delicate and elegant. Making a declaration to this fact, the popularity of white tea skyrocketed, which led to gardens throughout China growing this variety. As a part of growing interest, a new method for processing white tea was developed, fondly named the Song Method.

Traditional Processing of White Tea

Before the Song Method for processing Chinese white tea was created, the other method involved making cakes, which were then broken off into pieces to boil. However, with the Song Method for processing this exotic tea, it was made into powder. Once the leaves of the tea are steamed and dried, they are then crushed into powder form, which is whisked into hot water using wide Chinese bowls. Because of making white tea this way, the color comes out iridescent white or emerald.

Numerous types of white tea have become the favorites to include those grown on bushes of the Xiao Bai, Da Bai, Chaicha, and Narcissus plants. Grading of white tea is based on many things to include the way in which the leaves and buds are hand plucked.

Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea

The highest grade of all white tea goes to the Silver Needle, also called Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea. This tea is grown in China’s Fujian Province, along with Provinces of Yunnan, Lin Yun, and Jiangxi.

For tea to be at its best, it must be hand plucked from March 15 to April 10. At that time, the weather is dry. For the highest quality flavor, only unopened and undamaged buds are used. Many people like white tea because it has low caffeine levels. When brewed, the color is light and the flavor delicate and mild. In fact, some people say that white tea has very little flavor but this could be from choosing a low grade. Often, after white tea is brewed, it will have a pale yellow color that looks as if tiny white hair is floating on top.

Bai Mu Dan

Another excellent option that you can purchase through reputable tea companies is called Pai Mu Tan. Other names for this variety of tea include Bai Mu Dan, White Peony, and White Hairy Monkey. Grown in the Provinces of Chongqing and Fujian, the leaves and buds are also hand plucked from March 15 to April 10. While delicious, the grade of this Chinese white tea is not as high as Bai Hao Yinzhen tea.

The important thing when you buy tea online is to ask if the buds were undamaged. For this type of tea to be quality, the buds must be completely closed and not have any purple on them. For this type of tea, only the top two leaves and unopened buds are used and after the leaves dry, they turn green in color.

With this type of white tea, the fragrance has a floral note and the flavor is light and fruity. However, when brewed, it is also a stronger type of tea than other white varieties. In fact, when done brewing, the color is clear and shimmering, which could be gold or green. Of all Chinese white tea, this one has the second highest grade.

Shou Mei Tea

In the Provinces of Guangxi and Fujian is this type of white tea, which is made from hand plucked upper leaves and tips of the Camellia sinensis plant. Because these leaves and buds are pulled later than others are, the leaves are darker in color and the flavor is stronger. Most people say it tastes more like flowering tea or oolong tea. The key to brewing this kind of white tea is never to boil longer than three minutes or the tea becomes bitter. Of all graded Chinese white tea, this is ranked number four.

Darjeeling White Tea

This is another great choice of white tea grown in India. In this case, the leaves and buds are hand plucked and rolled, following time in the sun to wither. This type of white tea has to be grown in high altitudes where significant rainfall occurs and when brewed, the aroma and flavor are mild and the color pale.

Ceylon White Tea

Grown in Sri Lanka, this white tea is also harvested and rolled completely by hand. From that point, the leaves are set in the sun where they are allowed to wither. The color after brewing is pale and the flavor has a hint of honey. Of all tea grown in Sri Lanka, this is considered the best.

As you look at all the different types of white tea, the quality of the leaf plays a huge role in the grade. The highest grades would be made with more buds than leaves but just as with loose black tea, loose green tea, and other types of tea, the grading system has no standards. Therefore, trying to buy the best tea possible can be somewhat challenging.

The best rule of thumb when buying white tea, genmaicha tea, Chinese herbal tea, or any other variety is that the higher priced tea is probably best. However, when you purchase rare tea, expect to pay a lot of money. For this reason, you want to purchase from reputable tea companies and pay close attention to the quality listed on the label. Even though you would pay a higher price for quality tea, it is well worth it.

While millions of people enjoy Chinese herbal tea, which comes in many different varieties, as well as flowering tea, one of the intriguing mysteries is that no one really knows when tea was discovered. Perhaps part of the interest in tea also includes this mystery along with flavor and medicinal properties. We know it comes from the Camellia sinensis plant but not much more.

Who Drank the World’s First Tea

China is known for their colorful stories, legends that are shared and passed down for generations. One legend has to do with herbal tea, specific to the person that first enjoyed its wonderful flavor. This legend involves the Emperor, Shen Nung (Shennong) who was also a farmer, scholar, and herbalist.

When it came to science, Shen Nung knew a lot, especially for that period of life. For instance, Nung strongly believed that to purify drinking water, it had to first be boiled. The legend goes on that in 2737 BC, he was walking around the edge of the forest while his servants built a fire to boil water but the wind whipped up, causing a leaf from the Camellia sinensis plant to fall in.

As the leaves and twigs steeped in the water, they all began to boil. Becoming increasingly curious about the water changing color and the aroma being produced, Nung left them to steep. While the legend is that Chinese herbal tea was developed by accident, from that day forward, exotic tea soon became popular in other countries.

The Other Legend of Tea

While the first story is the one that most people believe, another version is that Wan Tu, a very evil man was actually the person to make the discovery. In this story, he had been banned to the southern region of China primarily because of his horrific disposition. Upon arrival, Wan Tu was boiling water only to have a problem with leaves falling into the pot. However, after sipping on the tea, he found it enjoyable and relaxing, which resulted in his evilness being replaced with kindness.

Is Instant Tea Any Good

You will discover that a third legend about healthy tea from China involved Buddhism. In this case, an Indian Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma, who founded Zen Buddhism, took at trip into China. While on his trip, he became angry due to struggling to stay away while meditating. He was so angry that the story says he cut his eyelids off and tossed them onto the ground. At that time, the eyelids fell into the Camellia sinensis plant, which was the beginning of instant tea. No matter the story you believe, today you can purchase hundreds of options through reputable tea companies.

When looking back at history of green tea, we know that the early users were from China and India. However, the people of Japan soon discovered the benefits of this tea and incorporated it into their culture, primarily tea ceremonies. As more and more people found that they could enjoy one green tea benefit after another, its popular expanded even more.

Without doubt, of all types of tea, green tea is versatile. This type of tea can be made in a variety of flavors or be consumed cold or hot. The way in which the tea ends up is based on the preparation. In addition to variety, this tea also improves energy but is also relaxing. Because green tea has a very low level of caffeine, it can provide a boost but without the jitters. Another green tea benefit is its weight loss properties.

This is why so many weight loss companies now offer green tea supplements, which contain a high level of antioxidants. In fact, along with green tea bags and supplements, you could also choose other forms of using green tea to lose weight. This tea also promotes overall good health.

When looking at the health of people living in Tibet and China, it is easy to see that green tea offers medicinal properties in that these people are healthy and live long lives. In fact, the Tibetan and Chinese people also enjoy ginseng root along with green tea, which provides minerals and vitamins to the body while being detoxified by the green tea.

Studies also show that when people drink green tea, bad cholesterol levels are lowered while good cholesterol levels increase. In fact, one particular study performed on animals show the polyphenols found in green tea stop cholesterol from being absorbed into the intestinal tract, which means eliminating bad cholesterol is possible.

Even the liver can benefit from green tea properties in that alcohol damage can be controlled better. When examining liver disease, studies show that for people drinking green tea, the number of confirmed cases are much lower. Green tea is all-natural, nature’s way of taking care of the body but the full benefits are still to be discovered.

When looking at food poisoning, several different types exist, all of them causing horrible symptoms. The most common of all forms is known as Bacillus cereus, which is not deadly. However, the symptoms that come along with this type of food poisoning include vomiting, cramping, nausea, and diarrhea that appear in 8 to 16 hours with the effects lasting days.

The most common reason that Bacillus cereus becomes a problem is associated with undercooked food, which can be made worse if food is not stored in the refrigerator at the appropriate temperature. What happens is that when food is stored too warm, spores begin to grow. Although any food could be subject to bacteria, one of the primary culprits is cooked rise that is not stored properly in the refrigerator.

Many studies have been done on food poisoning and research has identified a number of ways that we can protect the body from food poisoning. One in particular that has surprised many people is green tea. This healthy tea contains catechins, which are antimicrobial properties, actually helping by fighting Bacillus cereus and other bacteria. In fact, these protective properties are actually far better than ever imagined.

The UK Tea Council conducted one study that showed antimicrobial properties of seven green tea catechins, as well as four loose black tea theaflavins, which contain high levels of antioxidants revealed incredible information. In addition, the study looked at infusions of 36 commercial products of loose green tea and loose black tea, along with other exotic tea to include white and oolong tea, which are all forms of Chinese herbal tea.

Taking the antioxidants found in this type of tea, as well as infusions allowed researchers to identify the level of antimicrobial activity that fights Bacillus cereus bacteria. This study’s outcome showed that of all antioxidants studies contained antimicrobial properties. Additionally, the majority of compounds were actually far more active than antibiotics used for traditional medicine to include vancomycin and tetracycline.

Another fact that came out of the study was that brewed infusions of the best green tea containing catechins and theaflavins also had high antimicrobial properties. Of the brewed infusions, those made with fresh tea leaves were the best. Another interesting fact was that herbal brews; meaning teas other than pure green or black tea did not offer the same properties.

This means that to protect the body from illness, specifically food poison that comes from Bacillus cereus bacteria, drinking green tea daily would be a huge benefit. By drinking one to two cups of green tea, again cold or hot daily, bacteria such as this that can cause serious illness is blocked.

Some experts believe that the antioxidants found in tea may be enough by themselves when it comes to food poisoning, or at least help with reducing the symptom effects. However, when you add in the antimicrobial properties, green tea is even more beneficial. We know from the more than 100 studies that have been done on green tea that this is an excellent preventative against certain disease to include some types of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease. However, now identifying that Bacillus cereus can also be blocked or symptoms of food poisoning lessened, green tea has become even more valuable.

When it comes to living a long and healthy life, drinking green tea every day is without doubt one of the most important things we can do. If you look at the Japanese and Chinese people, they have long understood the importance of green tea for fighting cancer, using this type of tea as natural medicine. This likely explains why the Japanese and Chinese people are so healthy.

Taking this information and looking at information that has come out of other studies, experts believe that green tea is the most effective means for preventing heart disease. Then, with green tea having low caffeine content, you could drink as much as you want without worrying about getting anxious.

While studies show the importance of green tea for good health, we wonder why black tea has not received as much recognition. The reason is that these two types of tea are processed very differently. Chinese black tea is fermented whereas green tea is not. The fermentation of black tea is what changes the antioxidants from a natural state and converting it to a somewhat different compound. Therefore, green tea, which is not fermented, is much more beneficial from a health standpoint.

Keep in mind, even with fermentation, black tea still offers many excellent health benefits since it still contains antioxidants but antimicrobial properties are eliminated. The goal in finding healthy tea is to choose only what has natural antioxidants and antimicrobial properties, which is what green tea offers. Even white tea is a great choice, also being high in antioxidants and only being partially fermented.

This is why most studies have been done on green tea and why this is the most popular of all types of tea. We do see ongoing studies now involving white tea, which is also a healthy choice, again due to the antioxidants not being changed. We know that green tea has been proven to help lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers in Asian countries, along with white tea, which are both staple beverages. Because of this, researchers are now conducting more research so they can back up all the claims pertaining to green, black, and white tea.

Additionally, new evidence is showing that while green tea promotes health, it is believed that this type of healthy tea may provide a natural treatment for cancer. To support this, green tea has been used in studies that actually kill cancer cells or slow down their growth. Some new studies have even shown that using green tea in connection with chemotherapy, the traditional treatment of chemotherapy appears to be more effective than when used without green tea.

Therefore, from all the information gathered to date, green tea appears to be one of the most effective and safe of all natural treatments and preventatives for good health. Of course, with this being such big business, more studies will take place using humans instead of mice but it is expected that the results will still come out positive. When you think about it, all we need to do to prevent the onset of serious illness and fight existing illness is by enjoying a delicious cup of tea every day or taking green tea supplements.

Today, people wanting to prevent skin cancer and treat it have hope with green tea. Study after study has been done with great discoveries and now, more studies are being done to see if green tea could also be beneficial for other forms of cancer.

While promising news has come out of many studies in recent years, one in particular for skin cancer has to do with green tea. These studies are showing that regular consumption of the best green tea proves to be healthy tea for preventing and fighting skin cancer. Whether enjoyed as a hot or cold beverage or in the form of green tea supplements, the news is amazing and this leads to hope that other forms of cancer could also be prevented and treated.

The value of a diet rich in antioxidants has been researched for years with specific focus in the just past five years. We know that antioxidants help slow down aging while also preventing disease. When a diet consisting of antioxidants is eaten, and green tea, which is also loaded with antioxidants consumed, the results look very promising. The diet should consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as dark chocolate. Even coffee is loaded with antioxidants but of everything we can eat or drink, green tea is by far the best source.

The body naturally converts foods to energy, which create what are known as free radicals, which are molecules that contain oxygen that cause damage to the cells, as well as DNA. If free radicals are not fought against, the aging process moves by quickly. Other risks include blocked arteries and putting us at greater risk for developing a number of diseases that go along with age.

Without any question, we all need to increase the amount of antioxidants we put into the body but it needs to be from foods and beverages that are going to benefit most, to include green tea. For centuries, Asian people have used green tea as a daily beverage, knowing of the incredible medicinal properties this type of tea provides. If you look at the number of incidences of cancer and heart disease of Asians compared to Americans, it is easy to see that Asians are much healthier.

Now, when you look at Americans compared to Asian people, you can see that we have an epidemic of obesity, which leads to a long list of health risks to include diabetes, heart disease, and various types of cancer. Interestingly, among the different Asian cultures, we do know that more men from Japan smoke than from China. However, even with their being smokers, these men are still healthier than American men are.

More and more, people are doing everything possible to recapture the appearance of youth while trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle so they can live a long, healthy life. When looking at green tea in particular, this type of healthy tea has literally gone through hundreds of studies and everyone shows that it can prevent and treat cancer, but also make cancer treatment more effective.

One study in particular was done by the American Cancer Society, which showed that of all cancer types, skin cancer is the biggest problem. In fact, of all forms of skin cancer, melanoma is the most deadly. Sadly, approximately 4% of people with skin cancer have melanoma, which leads to a greater number of deaths each year than with any other form of skin cancer.

In the United States alone, about 62,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed every year and unfortunately, about 8,000 of those people die. Remember, non-melanoma skin cancer is actually very common to the point that it is estimated one of every million people have it. This same number is the same for people that will develop some other kind of cancer within a given year. The good news is that non-melanoma seldom takes a life, only about 1,000 people.

Within North America, the US especially, skin cancer is a serious problem, which has led to years of research and product development to prevent and treat it. As we all know, there are proven methods for preventing cancer, which begins by staying out of the sun and when outdoors, wearing a high SPF level sunscreen for protection. If we would all follow some simple guidelines, the number of diagnosed cases of skin cancer would diminish.

In addition to avoiding the sun on bright, sunny days, you need to remember that the sun can penetrate even when the sky is filled with clouds. Therefore, wear a hat, use SPF 15 sunscreen at minimum, and be smart about the amount of time spent outdoors. Then, regardless of the sunscreen product chosen, be sure that all instructions are read and followed exactly for the best protection possible.

Today, scientists and researchers continue to look for additional means of preventing and treating skin cancer. The one aspect that comes from all of the old and new studies is that green tea still offers the most benefits. Another study was conducted by the Alternative Medicine Review with fascinating results. This showed that mice that were given green tea in a laboratory setting both orally and topically had an excellent outcome for prevention and treatment of this form of cancer.

For this particular study, some of the mice already had skin cancer and some were being subjected seven carcinogen types, every one known to cause skin cancer. Then, the researchers divided the mice into groups. Some mice were given green tea in the drinking water, some had green tea extract applied to the skin, and another group was given both types of treatments. For instance, some of the mice were directly exposed to UVB rays but only given this type of Chinese herbal tea orally while others had the topical treatment.

The results of this controlled study were quite interesting – green tea benefit was associated with every mouse, whether they were exposed to cancer, had cancer, or regardless of how the green tea was administered. The study showed that when the skin of the mice with cancer was applied with green tea extract, deadly skin cells were destroyed before they could become cancerous.

The bottom line with this particular study is that whether green tea is consumed as a beverage, hot or cold, or used in some type of green tea lotion, cancer growth for mice already infected with cancer had a significant slowing of cancer cell growth. Then with drinking green tea, existing skin cancer actually went into regression for many of the mice.

While this and other studies used mice, the results do provide hope to humans. These studies provide a clear indicator that green tea does in fact help those wanting to prevent skin cancer or treat it. Therefore, whether drinking green tea or applying it topically, it appears that green tea is a highly effective solution.

While tests involving mice have been highly successful, researchers know that that green tea also needs to be tested on human in trial studies to see if the results can be duplicated. However, with so many studies being performed on mice and all of the results positive, it appears that adequate information exists showing green tea in one form or another should be a part of every person’s life. In addition to helping with skin cancer, this type of exotic tea also slows down the aging process.

Keep in mind that while these two studies are positive and exciting, the most amazing information is that the application of green tea lotion to the skin can actually kill off cancerous cells. Now, that does not mean that we should go out into the sun without proper protection or ignore the importance of a healthy diet but it does give millions of people hope, whether looking for a prevention or actually fighting existing skin cancer.

People in China not only discovered tea but for more than 5,000 years, they have consumed it. During this time, the Chinese people have studied varieties of loose leaf tea, gaining a tremendous amount of knowledge.

Tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant and the process of making green tea, loose black tea, oolong tea, and white tea has been perfected. During this process, a variety of tea has been developed, which requires a process of infusion to ensure every cup is delicious, aromatic, and healthy.

Benefits of Infused Tea

All over the world, people are now enjoying the fine flavors of tea and finding the best way to enjoy it while keeping costs down is by choosing from among multiple whole leaf infusions. The purpose of multiple infusions is to take high quality whole leaf tea and use purified water more than once for brewing a cup. This way, the tea holds onto its incredible flavor and aroma, as well as health benefits.

Cost Savings of Infused Tea

If you were to purchase the best green tea or other Chinese herbal tea on the market, you would pay a lot of money. Therefore, to ensure you get the same fine quality but without the high price, infusion is an excellent solution.

The Making of Multiple Tea Infusions

The key to a perfect cup of tea involving multiple tea infusions is that the whole tea leaf must be of the highest quality and the water pure, such as purified or mineral spring.

What Constitutes Quality Tea

For any herbal tea to be considered “high quality”, it must first be grown in a pristine tea garden. Then, each leaf must be carefully plucked during the spring. The window of opportunity is small for this but the girls and women that do the plucking are highly skilled. Once leaves are plucked from the Camellia sinensis plant, they are processed according to the required method so leaf integrity is untouched.

Consider green tea bags that can be purchased at the grocery store. These leaves when through a process known as cut, tear, and curl, which compromises the integrity of the leaf. For this reason, multiple infusions would not be possible without the flavor, aroma, and health benefits being greatly reduced. While you could get more than one cup from a single bag, you lose the value of the tea.

What does “Pure Water” Mean

Just as the leaves must be maintained with integrity, the water used needs to be pure. This means using only high quality, purified bottled water or mineral spring water. To enjoy the true flavor of exotic tea, you would never use tap water. In addition to flavor being compromised, tap water also contains harmful contaminants.

Therefore, when you purchase quality tea that can go through multiple infusions, you also want to buy water that can be used for brewing. The best option for optimal flavor is water that has gone through a distillation or oxygenation processing method.

The bottom line is that if you love tea and you want the full flavor, aroma, and healing properties, you need to purchase only the highest quality leaves possible. This would include leaves that have been hand plucked from the Camellia sinensis plant and then processed in the traditional Chinese manner. That way, you can enjoy multiple infusions while saving money.

Once you have the variety of tea you want, simple use pure water for brewing and you will be guaranteed the best cup of tea you have ever had. After all, with 5,000 years of knowledge from the Chinese people, we can certainly depend on their recommendations for perfect tea and multiple infusions.

Earl Grey tea has a wonderful and unique smoky flavor and deep aroma that quickly draws people in. However, some people insist this type of tea is more citrus-like, which means the exact flavor and aroma is hard to define. When looking at Star Trek characters, this is the tea of choice for Captain Picard!

When talking about this type of healthy tea, remember that any type of black tea, even Chinese loose black tea that has bergamot flavoring would be considered “Earl Grey”. To make this type of tea, some tea companies actually use low quality tea, hoping the bergamot flavoring will mask the less than desirable flavor. While everyone drinks Earl Grey differently, most like a slice of lemon, which enhances the already great flavor.

Earl Grey Tea’s Origin

In 1830, Britain’s Prime Minister was Earl Charles Grey and while in China working on diplomatic relations, Grey had the opportunity to save the life of a Mandarin Chinese person. To thank the Prime Minister for his selfless act, he was given a gift of special tea, which was taken back to England. Serving the tea to family and friends, word quickly spread about this unique tea, which soon became a fashionable beverage in all of Britain.

While the story is one of nobility, many people question its authenticity. For one thing, the Prime Minister had never been to China to work on diplomatic relations and, black tea was seldom consumed in China since most people preferred the Chinese herbal tea known as green tea. Because of this, the true history and origin of Earl Grey tea is still somewhat mysterious.

What is Bergamot Flavoring

The flavoring used in the making of Earl Grey tea is called Bergamot, which is a cultivated citrus tree that grows on the south coast of Italy, also called the Princess Pear since the fruit is actually edible. From the tree, oil is extracted and often used for making perfume. In fact, the very first Eau de Cologne made used this oil as an ingredient. However, Bergamot is also the special flavoring of Earl Grey, which has a unique flavor of grapefruit, lemon, and orange combined. Keep in mind that Bergamot found in Earl Grey tea is not the same as the Bergamot herb.

During the wintertime and just prior to the fruit ripening, fruit is picked from the tree by hand. From there, the essence of Bergamot is extracted using cold compresses, followed by storing for up to a full year. In aromatherapy, the essence of Bergamot is often used to treat depression but because it also has antimicrobial effects, it can help boost the body’s immune system so fighting off colds and flu is easier.

Benefits Specific to Women

Interestingly, it is also said that while Earl Grey was Prime Minister, any type of exotic tea created a unique response in women, making them more sensual and sexually aggressive. To help curb these excitable responses, lemon, orange, and Bergamot were added to tea, which was the beginning of “Lady Grey” tea. While this type of tea was originally developed for women, the wonderful flavor can be enjoyed by men too.

Getting weight off has never been easier and safer with the use of green tea. Study after study shows that using green tea extract boosts thermo genesis, as well as weight loss. Most people have a good idea of other health benefits associated with green tea because of containing rich antioxidants but now, this type of tea is found to offer even more benefits. Instead of depending on potentially harmful products or diet pills, green tea is safe and effective.

Methods for Treating Obesity

The two methods for treating obesity include eating a well-balanced diet and getting a minimum of 30 minutes exercise daily. The reason that this Chinese herbal tea works so well for weight loss is that it boosts energy by as much as 4%, which makes it possible for people to get the required exercise. Although no one really knows why energy increases, most medical experts believe it has to do with the polyphenols and catechins found in green tea are the reason.

Preventing Hypertension

Unfortunately, heart disease, such as hypertension is associated with obesity so doing everything possible to lose weight helps prevent or control any type of cardiovascular problem. As news spreads about the benefits of this exotic tea, especially weight loss, it is quickly becoming the most sought after variety. With this green tea benefit, no stimulation of the heart occurs as you would find with over-the-counter and even some prescription diet pills so this is a safe alternative. Therefore, even when someone has hypertension, green tea can be used in the quest to lose weight but without fear of making the problem worse.

Exercise and Green Tea

Another reason this special tea is so great for people that have hypertension is that drinking green tea along with daily exercise would not put additional stress on the heart. Therefore, concern over a heart attack can be dismissed. Again, most experts believe the polyphenols and catechins in herbal green tea works with the body’s natural chemicals so fat oxidation increases along with thermo genesis, allowing more fuel to be burned.

Just being able to drop unwanted pounds without depending on diet pills is worth it. Weight loss can occur by drinking three or four cups of green tea daily or even by taking green tea supplements. Then, with the right diet and daily exercise, finally getting rid of excess weight is possible. Because of growing demand, stores now offer a wide variety of green tea tablets, supplements, or other products specific to weight loss. Most people notice a difference in a short amount of time, often weeks.

In addition to products, you will find a number of special programs being offered that include green tea. For instance, if you look at fitness centers all over the country, many have some way of incorporating green tea into the workout regimen. Most programs go along with a vegetarian and/or organic diet. However, the method for losing weight using green tea varies from one person to another. The key is to lose weight so you end up living a healthier life!
